I. is my iPhone locked/unlocked?
Here is how you can check if your iPhone is locked/unlocked.
Method #1
- First go to Settings and then Cellular.
- If you see a Cellular Data option under the Cellular menu, then your iPhone is unlocked.
- If you don’t see “Cellular Data Network” as an option under Cellular, then the phone is locked.

However, this method for checking your iPhone’s status isn’t foolproof. For that reason, we recommend that you also use the method below if you can. It’s more complicated, but it’ll give a definitive result on whether your iPhone is locked.
Method #2
For this test, you need two SIM cards for your iPhone from two different carriers.
- First, turn off your phone’s power.
- Then open your iPhone’s SIM card slot with a removal tool or a paper clip. If you don’t know how to do this, watch this video.
- Remove the phone’s SIM card and replace it with the other card from a different carrier.
- Turn on the power again.
- You can now see that the carrier’s name at the top of your home screen has changed.
- Now dial a call.
If the call goes through, your phone is unlocked. If the call doesn’t connect, the phone is locked to the other carrier. At this point, you may also see on the screen a message explaining that the phone is locked.
II. is my Android locked/unlocked?
Here is how you can check if an Android phone is locked/Unlocked.
Method #1
- First go to Settings.
- Go to Connections.
- Go to Networks (maybe Mobile Networks or Cellular Networks, depending on your phone model and the version of Android OS it’s using).
- Select Networks Operators.*It may take a short time for the phone to search for available networks.
If available networks appear, the phone is probably unlocked. To make sure, choose one and try to make a call.
If only one result comes back from the network search, or if the Search Networks option is unavailable in the Networks menu, then the phone is most likely locked to the carrier.
However, keep in mind that this method is not 100% accurate. To confirm your phone’s status try using this next test. It’s a little more complicated, but it’ll give you a final answer on if your phone is locked or unlocked.
Method #2
For this test, you need two SIM cards for your phone from two different carriers.
- First, turn off your phone’s power.
- Remove your phone’s SIM card with a removal tool or a paperclip. Watch this video for how to tell if an Android phone is unlocked.
- Replace the SIM card with the other SIM card from a different carrier.
- Turn on the power again.
- You can now see that the carrier’s name at the top of your home screen has changed.
- Now dial a call.
If the call connects, your phone is unlocked. If you now can’t place a call, the phone is locked to the first carrier. At this point, you may also see on the screen a message explaining that the phone is locked.
Steps to setup data-only e-sim
I. iPhone/iPad setup
- Select plan for "United States" or "Global" coverage
- Received the QR code via email (the email address added during sign-up)
- Go to Settings -> Cellular
- Click on “Add Cellular Plan” and scan the QR code from the email to add a new plan
- QR code will add a new plan. Go ahead and click on “Add Cellular Plan
- Select Cellular Plan Labels -> Secondary
Note: Primary is your current Cellular plan/phone number from your current carrier. - Set the default line as “Primary”. This is data only e-sim so you should use primary cellular plan for regular voice and text messages.
.
- Select which cellular plan to use for iMessage, Facetime and Apple ID.
You can keep this for primary and can toggle it to secondary later when traveling to countries where you would prefer e-sim coverage over primary roaming coverage..
- Similarly, for cellular data, you can choose either but for now you can keep it as primary and then switch to secondary during traveling. You could also choose the option to “Allow Cellular Data Switching” to experience the best coverage in a particular region. Note, that this could be changed later in the settings as per requirements.
.
- For contact's preferred line keep it as primary. This is so that calling contacts will always use the primary cellular network. Hit Done.
.
- On clicking done, you will be taken to the main Cellular settings screen, where you can toggle between the primary or secondary “Cellular Data” plan. Click "Cellular Data Primary >" to switch between Primary and Secondary cellular network for data access.
Note 1: Keep it as primary when in your home country, unless you want to use the e-sim plan instead of your home country carrier plan.
Note 2: Switch to secondary when traveling to US/EU/UK.
Please note that your phone will now show both the Cellular plans - Primary and Secondary. But only primary is selected to be used for all activities and as shown above, you can switch to secondary for data access on demand.
In the following image,
Primary: AT&T
Secondary: Celitech (data only e-sim)
Note: Celitech is the name of the Wificoin e-sim profile.
